There is beauty in the ashes. I’m not sure why this phrase is what comes to mind as I think of what to write for this five minute Friday prompt of “Beautiful”. Typically I read the word and my mind starts spinning like a merry go round with a story unfolding behind the letters. But today, my mind returns to that simple phrase: There is beauty in the ashes.
A few years ago my bible study did the Beth Moore study on Daniel, and I remember it talking about the refiners fire. How all precious metals go through the refinishing process of filtering and sweating out the impurities to find the value underneath. Behind the ashes. This process is the same for us, I think. When we let ourselves be molded by the artist, his masterful hands bringing beauty through the fire, beauty through the ashes.
Through each of the trials we face, each of the fires that lick at our faith and remove us from our comfort zone, we become the women we are today and we are left with a choice to make. We can come through the flames on fire, showing our true beauty through the ashes that have melted away. Or we can focus on the flame, the pain of the change and see the scars it has left us with. So which do you choose, dear sister? Are you focusing on the flame? Or are you seeing the beauty through the ashes, truly the girl on fire?
