There are those days, the ones that sometimes bleed into week’s, months and even years. Those days when your tired to the bone, feeling raw and broken, used up and put out wet, and then someone needs you once more. There is another deadline to meet, cupcakes to be made, baby to feed. The homework isn’t finished, the sink is full and the laundry? It is so far from done it hasn’t even made it to the hamper yet. There are those days, those days when you wonder if anyone sees you for who you really are.
You wonder what happened to that girl, the one with the quick smile and quicker whit, before she got lost behind the ovulation kits and pregnancy tests.
You wonder what happened to the woman in heels and pearls who ran the office but now runs the carpool.
You think about the bride, excited and filled with the sheen of love and new adventure. The one he looked at and was lost in, before she became the keeper of the Cherios and check book.
Looking in the mirror, it seems like a stranger peers back. Who is that woman with the grey in her hair and the wrinkles by her eyes? And you wonder if you even see yourself any more.
There are those days, that bleed into week’s and months and years and suddenly you wake up and feel lost. A stranger in your own skin and a character in this scattered play of misdirection. Invisible aside from the stand-in roll you play.
But I see you.
I see you for the beautiful woman you are, with the whit and the fire of your youth.
I see you for the mamma who works overtime, even when it means sacrificing your hot bath or long run.
I see you, with the lines around your eyes that mean you have a beautiful smile, and bring joy to others.
But more importantly, He sees you. He sees the daughter he created and the love story he wrote for you. He sees you behind the bubbles in the kitchen sink and on the bleachers of the soccer field. He sees you when you cry behind the locked door in the bathroom. And he loves you. For who you were, who you are, and who you will be. And those days, months, years, he waits for you to see him to.
